Happy Holidays 2024

This was the Year of the Changing Plan.

At the end of her Circus season, Jocelyn ended up injuring her knee with a torn ACL. She had to get surgery, and the recovery is long, so she was not able to perform in the 2024 season. She has been invited back for the 2025 season and started attending a training program here in the Boston area after she was recovered enough to do that.

Perry, meanwhile, graduated summa cum laude and has his bachelor's degree. He took some graduate courses, but then decided that he already had enough credentials to enter the workforce. So he's not going to complete the Master's now, and instead will start looking for a job. He already has a bit of a volunteer job, which he's been doing for many years now. If you've ever used Wikipedia, you might want to know that Perry is a volunteer administrator and has made over 100,000 edits to Wikipedia!

Good luck to both of them!

Last year someone asked me "so how are the grown-ups doing; all you ever do is report on the kids". Which is because my relationship with my family of origin is iffy so I stick to safe topics.

The grown-ups are doing pretty well. Valerie had her knee replaced over the summer, and it made a big difference in her quality of life. Next summer she and her doctor will decide whether or not to do the second knee, which is not nearly as degraded as the first one was.

Neither Ken nor I has any particular plans to retire, though if I end up getting laid off by my current job (not particularly likely, other than the fact that it's the computer industry and everything is always uncertain), I probably won't try to get another job. Ken has been very busy supervising students and doing research with a big international gravitational wave research consortium called Nanograv.
